Tips: How To Clean Different Flooring Type

Flooring is an essential part of a house. We require different maintenance for different kinds of floors. You need to maintain your flooring from time to time in order to make your house look better. Here I want to share some tips that can help you to clean your floors.

How To Clean Ceramic Tiles Floor

Ceramic tiles are made from a composite of clay and other natural materials. They are the easiest to clean and maintain. Mop regularly using a wet mop and neutral, mild floor cleaner to keep the sheen on your tiles. Old string mop is the best mop among all sorts of mops. Subsequently, one of the challenges that come with tile floors is cleaning grout lines. As grout is usually white (a color that gets dirty easily) and porous, it absorbs substances such as grease, dirt, and liquids quite fast and hard to be removed. You can keep the grout clean with regular brushing.

Also, make sure not to use an abrasive cleaner on the floor; otherwise, it will scratch the glaze. Tiles are good when it comes to stains, but they are still very fragile and can get scratched when a lot of dust accumulates in them. To keep the tile floors clean, you should always vacuum or sweep with a soft-bristle broom.

How To Clean Vinyl Floor

There are varieties of Vinyl flooring available. The most famous among them are the vinyl planks and vinyl tiles. Vinyl flooring is versatile, water-and stain-resistant, and provides good durability for the cost. This type of flooring is easy to maintain and clean and does not take much time also. Use a wet mop if you have spilled something on the floor. Be reminded that you have to use a neutral floor cleaner and not an abrasive one so that the flooring does not get spoiled while washing the floor.

You can mop it again using a solution of white vinegar and water if you still can see streaks on the floor after moping. Do not pour water directly to the floor because it will loosen the adhesive and increase the chances of floor damage. Read here for more tips on how to clean your vinyl floors.

How to Clean Wooden Floor

Wooden floors are classic and timeless. Hardwood floors are generally made from full solid wood planks and comprised of the following types of wood: Oak, Beech, Teak, Maple, Cherry, Walnut, and Ash. Hardwood styles for flooring are including of parquet, solid planks, strips and ’tile-like’ in appearance. Hardwood flooring is not easy to maintain as other options of flooring. However, if cleaned frequently, no damage will be done to the flooring, and it can remain new for a long time. Since the top layer of wooden floor is a thick solid wood, you may vacuum your floor. After that, apply wood floor restorer over it using a dry wax applicator to make your floor shine and to give it a polished look for a long time.

Water is the enemy for wood floor cleaning. Water dulls your wood’s finish and leads to irreversible stains. Never use a wet mop or think about washing your floors with water unless your wood has been treated with polyurethane. Wipe off the smallest spills promptly and keep the floor dry. Always use appropriate polishing material and wipe with soft mop regularly.

How to Clean Marble Floor

A Marble is a metamorphic rock formed by alteration of limestone or dolomite. It is irregularly colored by impurities and used especially in architecture and sculpture. Marble floor tile is used for both interior and exterior flooring applications. Few of the different colors of marble are black, red, white mottled and banded, green, pink, and gray. Cover off the micro-pores on this natural stone material using marble sealer. Its porous quality makes it vulnerable to moisture and makes it retain dust and dirt easily. Hence, a good layer of sealant is necessary.

Use a pH-neutral cleaning agent and hot water to clean marble floors and to avoid discoloring the marble or damaging the sealer. Keep it clean by damp-mopping daily and use a soft mop head to clean the surface.

How to Clean Laminate floor

The laminate floors are a multi-layer floor product that fused with a lamination process. It is an excellent alternative to wooden floors. The best way to clean the laminate floor is vacuuming first and then mop with a microfiber mop. Avoid using a string mop or steam mop to clean the laminate floor as they use a lot of water, which will damage the floor. You can either use a manufacturer’s cleaning solution or use a solution of vinegar and water. However, it would be best if you did not use unusual cleaning liquid like soap, oil-soap detergent, or shampoo.
Besides, you should never wax or polish your laminate flooring. To protect your laminate floor from scratch or wrap, you should vacuum your floor regularly to remove the dust and sand particles.

Daily Task You Can Do to Protect Your Flooring

No matter what type of flooring, here are some of the things we should do every day to keep the floors looking their best:

  • Vacuum every day. When dust sits longer, it will adhere to the floor surface and making it more difficult to remove.

  • Wipe off the spills as soon as possible. Moisture will damage the sheen of indoor floors and discolors natural stone floors like marble. Water is the number one enemy of wood. Hence, wiping off spills promptly to prevent any damages and stains.

  • Always use the correct mat. Placing mats strategically around the property will prevent dust and debris from entering the premises and seeping into the floors. We should choose the correct kind of mat for each area of your space to get the best results.
